Welcome
The Centre for Teacher Development OISE/UT, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, hosted a provincial conference, Teacher Induction, Mentoring and Renewal: Supporting New Teacher Induction
In Ontario on November 3 and 4, 2006 at the Holiday Inn, King Street in Toronto, Ontario.
The conference featured leading educators in the field including Barbara Stern (Induction), Ellen Moir and Bruce Wellman (Mentoring), and Virginia Richardson (Renewal).
The conference also included a presentation on the New Teacher Induction Program (NTIP) by the Ministry and school board teams from across Ontario.
Sessions
Specific sessions of the conference were taped in order to inspire dialogue, reflection and action, as participants explored critical aspects of effective teacher induction, mentoring, and renewal in Ontario.
It is anticipated that the webcasts will provide research based information on models and strategies that will help district school boards embed the NTIP in schools.
About NTIP
School boards across the province of Ontario hire approximately 10,000 new teachers per year. Our new teachers are entering into a profession much more complex and demanding than ever before.
Planned and sustained support and performance assessment for new teachers is crucial to a meaningful growth process. The NTIP is designed to help new teachers achieve their full potential. It extends and complements the first step of education and practicum training that new teachers receive during their pre-service education program. With its emphasis on effective teaching practices, the program will assist new teachers as they work, and thus also improve the educational experiences of their student.
Presentations and Videos
Print resources and webcasts of the keynote sessions including Ellen Moir, Bruce Wellman, Virginia Richardson, the panel session moderated by David Booth and selected workshops from the conference are available on this website.
In addition, practical information and material relevant to NTIP will be added to the website on an ongoing basis.
