A writing team has been engaged in preparing a Course Profile to support the implementation of The Ontario Curriculum, English, Grade 12, Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course policy document released in June 2003. This sample course of study was developed for publication and distribution to schools in the summer of 2003.
The Course Profile for the Grade 12 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course is designed to be equally useful to teachers in both public and Catholic schools.
Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course
Three writing teams prepared Course Profiles to support the implementation of The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 11 and 12 Interdisciplinary Studies policy document released in the spring of 2002.
The Grades 11 and 12 Interdisciplinary Studies Course Profiles are designed to be equally useful to teachers in both public and Catholic schools. Each Course Profile is written as a single document by writing teams comprising teachers from both systems.
Teacher writing teams prepared Course Profiles to support the two new related courses for co-operative education, Discovering the Workplace (GLD2O) and Navigating the Workplace (GLN4O), which will be included in the Guidance and Career Education policy document currently under revision. These Grades 10 and 12 Course Profiles are designed to be equally useful to teachers in both public and Catholic schools. The writing teams were comprised of teachers from both systems.

The Course Profiles may be used in their entirety, in part, or adapted. The Course Profiles, funded by the Ministry of Education, have been developed by partnerships of school boards and subject associations. They have been written specifically for teachers by teachers by teams of secondary teachers across Ontario who were selected for their expertise in a particular subject area and for their ability to help with the implementation of the new Ontario Curriculum.
OCC (Ontario Curriculum Centre, now the Ontario service of Curriculum Services Canada) was asked to lead a peer review of each profile, examining them for consistency with the curriculum policy and for accuracy and currency of content, sound methodology and assessment, suggestions for accommodations, and inclusivity. The Ministry of Education also examined the Course Profiles for consistency with policy.
