Curriculum Correlation
Responsible Citizenship and Canada's Tax System supports curriculum topics related to Business, Civics, Mathematics, Accounting, Law, and Economics courses for Grades 9 to 12.

Content
Responsible Citizenship and Canada's Tax System consists of a teacher's guide, student handouts, a tax remittance simulation, cartoon visuals, blackline masters, a glossary of terms, and a poster. The information provided in the various components can be used to enrich the study of the Canadian tax system. The teacher's guide suggests activities, additional resources, and websites that are appropriate. The resource uses text, photos, and graphics to inform students about the workings of the Canadian tax system. The poster provides a visual reinforcement of concepts.

Methodology
The resource provides a variety of learning strategies that can be applied to multiple classroom environments, e.g., individual and small-group activities. Activities are appropriately designed for teacher and student use.

Assessment
The resource includes questions and problems that can be used as the basis for designing student assessments.

Format
The components of the resource are visually engaging and the three-ring binder format makes them easily accessible for use.

Bias
The resource presents information from a factual perspective rather than being issue-oriented. The examples used in Activity 1 on page 12 of the teacher's guide (regarding those who do not pay taxes) are not representative of all working people in Canada. Educators using this resource should be aware that the occupations being used as examples of people who do not report their full income do not include representation from professions. It should be noted to students that professionals might also not report their full income.

Review Recommendation
Responsible Citizenship and Canada's Tax System is recommended to support curriculum topics related to Business, Civics, Mathematics, Accounting, Law, and Economics courses for Grades 9 to 12.
