Curriculum Correlation
It's Not Your Fault, a workshop on abuse prevention, supports the Health and Physical Education curriculum in Canadian schools and has special application for Guidance counsellors, CYCs, CYWs or others working with students in the intermediate and senior grades.

Content
This resource includes a detailed facilitator's guide containing background information, instructions for delivery of the workshop, and activities. The instructional video component addresses issues related to emotional, physical, and sexual abuse in a non-judgemental and non-personal way. The facilitator's guide includes instructions on how to debrief the videos with students. The language is straightforward and concepts and terms are well defined. The workshop activities present the content and concepts in an appropriate, non-threatening context that encourages adolescents to participate.

Methodology
The video is a key means of presenting the concepts. Because of the sensitive nature of issues of abuse, it is important that the instructor provide ample pre-teaching and preparation prior to the viewing of the video. The various 'stop' points in the video allow for discussion and reflection. During the workshop, the activities require participants to use and practise thinking skills as they analyze, hypothesize, and draw conclusions based on case scenarios. These scenarios present problem-solving opportunities that engage and challenge the learner and provide ample opportunity for discussion. The program is sufficiently flexible to allow an instructor to modify both the information and the presentation depending on the group participating in the workshop.

Assessment
An evaluation form provides a bias-free forum in which the learner can be as general or as specific as they wish while giving ample feedback to the instructor about what they have learned about abuse and can apply to their personal experiences. It is congruent with the objectives stated for the program.

Format
It's Not Your Fault is a complete workshop package with all the components integral to the effective presentation of the concepts and issues. The workshop facilitator's package includes activity modules, case study videos, a Power Point presentation, and hand-outs. The Power Point presentation visually emphasizes the key messages. The hand-outs are clearly presented and easy-to-follow.

Bias
The information in this learning resource is presented from a balanced perspective.

Review Recommendation
It's Not Your Fault is recommended as a resource to be used as part of an abuse prevention program with students in the intermediate and senior grades of Canadian schools.
