Curriculum Correlation
A Study in First Nations supports Social Studies curriculum in Canadian elementary schools.

Content
The six booklets contain case studies of Alderville First Nation, Beausoleil First Nation Christian Island, Georgina Island First Nation, Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, Mnjikaning First Nation, and Moose Deer Point First Nation  communities of Aboriginal peoples living in Ontario. Each booklet includes information about the history of the First Nation, its land, governance, contemporary life, and issues such as education, self-government, treaty rights and land claims. A comprehensive teachers guide provides support for helping students acquire a greater understanding of Aboriginal peoples. The booklets are written at an appropriate level for students to comprehend the content.

Methodology
The teaching suggestions and learning experiences address topics related to the study of Aboriginal peoples. There are a variety of activities to appeal to different learning styles with a balance between teacher and student-directed tasks.

Assessment
The resource contains a variety of tools and strategies for assessing students learning as they complete the activities.

Format
Each of the six booklets follows a consistent format for ease of use by students. Colour photographs and an attractive layout make the booklets accessible and engaging for students.

Bias
The resource is written from an Aboriginal perspective. The materials are designed to help students learn about Aboriginal peoples by learning from them. The portrayal of First Nations peoples is current, accurate, and purposefully dispels stereotypes.

Review Recommendation
A Study in First Nations is recommended to support the Aboriginal studies component of Social Studies curriculum in Canadian elementary schools.
