Content
Promoting Healthy, Equal Relationships Resource Package is comprised of fifteen resources that include lesson plans, websites, a game, and a kit. The Roots of Equality lesson plans feature a table of contents and, where appropriate, glossaries, illustrations, charts, graphic organizers, and resource/reference lists and blackline masters for activities. The resource package addresses safety precautions relevant to the subject; e.g., the White Ribbon Campaign in a Box offers information for victims, relatives, friends, and neighbours on how to recognize and address the signs of abuse. The resource package includes websites that provide opportunities for students to learn and practise grade-appropriate technological skills; e.g., Equity Rules and the RePlay Positive Video Game require students to make choices and solve problems while navigating a series of scenarios.
Methodology
The Promoting Healthy, Equal Relationships Resource Package presents content and concepts in an appropriate, inclusive context; e.g., parent tip sheets in Roots of Equality are available in several languages including Punjabi, Somali, and Spanish. The resource package provides students with opportunities to communicate their findings and results in a variety of media; e.g., the Replay Positive Video Game enables students to input their own comments and characters into the game scenarios. Community links are frequently cited in the resource package for students, educators, and parents.
Assessment
The Promoting Healthy, Equal Relationships Resource Package offers suggestions for assessment in the Roots of Equality workshop, the Replay Positive Video Game Handbook for Educators, and the Equality Rules lesson plans.
Format
The Promoting Healthy, Equal Relationships Resource Package provides a variety of materials that include user-friendly, interactive websites, pamphlets, graphs, charts, photographs, and diagrams that enhance learning, facilitate independent use, and help to hold the learner's attention.
