The Prevention and Correction of Errors in French: A Systematic Approach, based on songs, was developed by Dr. Cher Harvey of Nipissing University and Juno Award nominee 'Jacquot'. This innovative remedial resource was created to help FSL students ages 9 to 16 and older to increase proficiency in French. The approach is based on research in the areas of error correction, brain-based learning, multiple intelligences, constructivism, music and cognition, and second-language learning. Designed specifically for second-language learners, the resource is appropriate for Core, Extended or Immersion French and, in some situations, for French As a First Language. The supplementary resource relates directly to provincial curriculum across Canada and supports the goals of "The Action Plan for Official Languages." The kit includes a CD of original music, a teacher's guide, eight posters, and 240 laminated language activity cards. Each of the eight songs, including lyrical and instrumental versions, targets a fossilized error. When students memorize the songs, they retain correct language structures in long-term memory. Twenty-five of Canada's top musicians participated in the production of the contemporary, upbeat music. Teachers can offer a student CD sale allowing students to purchase individual copies at a discount price. The 235-page teacher's guide offers professional development for teachers in error correction techniques. Unique features include: (1) multiple intelligence menu of teaching strategies for teachers, (2) multiple intelligence menu of performance tasks for students, (3) 91 pages of reproducible materials for classroom use, (4) ideas to promote French in the school, home, and community, and (5) musical notations for each song. Eight colourful posters raise awareness of errors, emphasize correct structures, and encourage self-correction. Students relate to photos of happy, healthy, multicultural teens. For each song, a package of 30 laminated language activity cards reinforce correct structures in an interactive question/answer format.
