CSC Evaluation

Curriculum Correlation
Although it has been promoted as a Grade 7 supplementary resource, the majority of the material in JUMP Math Workbook 7 supports Number Sense and Algebra strands in grades below Grade 7.

Content
The work on algebraic patterning uses a wide range of representations. There is minimal use made of mathematical processes; e.g., problem solving, communication, and reasoning. Part 1 and most of Part 2 provide materials appropriate to supplement curriculum from Grades 4, 5, and 6.

Methodology
Some games are provided to assist in instruction. There are no suggestions on how to use the materials for differentiated instruction. There is minimal use of real-life representations.

Assessment
Assessment opportunities are based on answers being either correct or incorrect, with only occasional communication questions.

Format
The format of the workbook format is appropriate for a supplemental resource. The text-dense page design limits the use of the resource to proficient English-language readers.

Bias
JUMP Math Workbook 7 presents a balanced approach.

Review Recommendation
JUMP Math Workbook 7 is recommended as a supplementary resource that provides teachers with many items that can be used either as drill or as further practice related to Number Sense and Algebra strands of Grades 4, 5, 6, and 7 Mathematics.
