Publisher's Description
JUMP Math's Grade 7 Workbook is separated into two parts. Part 1 contains background material that should be covered as quickly as possible, but still thoroughly. Students will go through Part 2 much more confidently and quickly if they have the background they need from Part 1. Most, but not all, grade-level curriculum content is in Part 2.
We supplement our workbooks with a Teacher's Guide, which provides activities and extensions to do alongside the worksheets, as well as some notes on how to teach the materials. However, instructions on how to teach the material and break it down into steps are included on the worksheets. We have done this for several reasons:
- It reinforces the ideas for students and helps them grasp concepts they missed in class activities or lessons;
- We acknowledge that teachers are very busy and do not always have time to consult the guide;
- When students take the workbook home to parents, they see how topics were presented in class.
The worksheets:
- Provide full content Ontario curriculum expectations for mathematics (process expectations are covered occasionally but are mostly addressed in the Teacher's Guide);
- Have only one, or at most two, concepts per worksheet to avoid overwhelming students who are struggling;
- Break down concepts into incremental steps. This allows teachers to assess understanding at each stage of the learning process and students to decide immediately whether they need to answer a question or if they already understand;
- Go back and forth between concrete models and symbolic representations;
- Allow students to see many different models of the same concept and to make connections between those models.
