Curriculum Correlation
Kids in the Know Personal Safety Program supports learning outcomes for Health and Career Education and other disciplines where curriculum outcomes require students to think critically about a variety of health topics and decisions, examine skills that help to develop healthy relationships, and develop safe attitudes and practices in a variety of settings.

Content
The content is up-to-date, relevant, and presented in a clear manner. The organization of the binder allows teachers to quickly access the content they need. The writing is concise and presented in an efficient and easy-to-read format. The resource stresses Canadian content where applicable. The content addresses sensitive personal safety issues that are relevant to teens and pre-teens in today's society. The components of Zoe and Molly Online (comic book and parent's guide) specifically address Internet safety for children. The Grades K to 8 units use language that is age-appropriate. The high school unit is appropriate for Grade 9 students and some Grade 10 students, but is not appropriate in level for students in Grades 11 or 12.

Methodology
The resource reflects sound pedagogical principles and addresses a variety of teaching and learning styles. The learning needs of students of different abilities and interests can be met in an engaging and thought-provoking manner. The goal, the promotion of personal safety, is presented in a learner-centred way. The goal of the program is to solicit dialogue and to make students aware of potential risks. Most of the topics and accompanying activities address issues that will pique student interest, particularly among those learners who do not traditionally interact in a classroom setting. The introduction mentions that adaptations should be made for students with special needs; however, examples of adaptations and customized lessons are not included in the resource.

Assessment
As the goal of the program is to solicit dialogue and promote an open learning environment, the resource offers different formats for students to share their learning rather than formal assessment opportunities. The facilitator can measure knowledge acquisition through revision and clarification rather than through testing. Formal assessment strategies are limited to the Exit Slip activity in most cases.

Format
The format of the resource is a significant strength. The information is presented in brief nuggets and paragraphs that immediately engage the learner. The sequential nature of the program, both lesson-to-lesson and year-to-year, is logical and accessible.

Bias
The graphics and photographs reflect a range of cultures and abilities. This resource can accommodate students whose needs are not necessarily met within a traditional classroom curriculum.

Review Recommendation
This resource is recommended for use in Health and Career Education and other disciplines where curriculum outcomes require students to think critically about a variety of health topics and decisions, examine skills that help to develop healthy relationships, and develop safe attitudes and practices in a variety of settings.
