Content
Hoops for Heart is a set of five posters that support the acquisition of fundamental movement skills, i.e., balance, locomotion, manipulation, and stability, with a focus on ball skills using a basketball. The posters encourage students to participate as individuals and in small groups.
Methodology
Detailed point-form descriptions of the activities explain each step clearly and describe correct hand and body positions for executing each ball skill. Directions are concise and use appropriate vocabulary. The Let's Get Started section provides practice for the skills. It describes the area, simple equipment, and time required; each player's role; and ways to rotate student positions.
Assessment
While assessment is not addressed in this resource, the activities can provide the basis for determining student achievement.
Format
This visually appealing resource consists of five colourful posters. Each poster follows a consistent pattern, which includes an illustration and description of the basic skill and a small group ball activity. Colourful graphics illustrate the skills in sequence.
