Curriculum Correlation
Trésor Junior supports educators in implementing the Ontario curriculum for French As a Second Language in Grades 4 to 6.
Content
The language is appropriate for the targeted audience. The writing is clear and reflects common French Canadian expressions. References to current issues, such as recycling, support students in building comprehension and developing vocabulary. The resource portrays people learning, working, and playing safely.
Methodology
Literacy strategies such as before, during, and after reading activities provide students with opportunities to make connections, predict, question, infer, and reflect. The Teacher's Guide encourages teachers to use literacy tools such as think-alouds and visualization. Activities such as role plays and reader's theatre support students in developing problem-solving and collaborative skills.
Assessment
The activity cards provide a variety of opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning. The assessment rubrics in the Teacher's Guide provide baseline criteria from which teachers and students can develop standards to meet individual class needs
Format
The levelled reading materials support students with varying degrees of proficiency. The audio CDs that accompany the readers and the graphics in the readers clarify the content. The Teacher's Guide has an easy-to-use organization with references, teaching strategies, lesson-plan suggestions, blackline masters, and activity cards.
Bias
Trésor Junior presents a balanced perspective.
Review Recommendation
Trésor Junior is recommended as a resource to support curriculum delivery in Grades 4 to 6 where programming similar to Ontario's French As a Second Language curriculum is followed.
