The literature circle presented in this segment demonstrates how probing questions can help create an expanded understanding not only of text but of oneself and one's world. The teacher skillfully models how to ask such probing questions in a respectful manner and, in so doing, move the conversation to deeper levels. Each member of the circle is encouraged to participate by listening attentively and communicating his/her thoughts succinctly. At the end of the session, circle members reflect on how the process has impacted their thinking and learning. |
