Recent announcements by the federal government indicate an increase in immigration targets in order to meet Canada's economic needs. Most newcomers come to Ontario, and more of them are expected to settle in smaller towns and communities across Ontario. It is important for all schools to get ready for linguistic and cultural diversity in the classroom!

Dr. Jim CumminsThe webcast features Dr. Jim Cummins of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, an internationally renowned expert on English-language learners. This webcast inspires teachers to think in new ways about their students whose first language is neither English nor French. Jim shows how to use students' own languages as an asset in the classroom in order to enhance home-school connections and overall literacy development. You will see teachers and students talking about their experiences, as well as samples of students' work.
