This is an exciting and challenging time to be involved in the teaching profession. We live in a world of globalization and rapid technological development. How do we help students gain the critical and analytical skills necessary to be successful in the future they will inherit?
In this webcast, international experts will share their views about how best to prepare students for the future. We will also visit three classrooms and explore innovative approaches to helping students become literate, global-minded citizens adept at using technology and the arts to communicate.
The following questions are intended to promote deep thinking and professional dialogue:
This webcast was developed in partnership with Learning Connections www.learningconnections.on.ca, an LNS sponsored online professional learning network aimed at supporting K-8 teachers and improving student achievement in literacy and numeracy. The three teachers featured in the classroom video clips in this webcast are members of the Learning Connections project. Education experts and leaders are also featured in this webcast and provide research-based comments related to 21st century literacies and classroom practices.
Learning Connections is open to all elementary school educators across Ontario and provides them with access to peer-to-peer collaboration through threaded discussions, resource sharing and live streamed events and meetings. Modelled after its parent project, the Advanced Broadband Enabled Learning (ABEL) www.abelearn.ca program, Learning Connections also provides educators with access to the latest technology tools and support to effectively integrate digital literacy into their practice.
A special "Today's Learner for Tomorrow's World" workspace within the website has been created if you have questions for them, or would like access to lesson plans, activity sheets or assessment tools shown in the videos. Special thanks to the band members of The Citizen Band for their talent and support.
